Metaphase Arresting Solution (MAS) is a mixture of colchicine/vinblastine sulfate dissolved in PBS. Both compounds inhibit the formation of mitotic spindles and are used to increase the percentage of metaphase cells for chromosome studies. Vinblastine sulfate has been found to be more effective against bone marrows, difficult tumors and problematic tissues with low mitotic indexes, and where colchicine appears to be ineffective.

Erythrocyte Lysis Solution (ELS) is a simple pretreatment for heavily bloodstained amniotic fluid or bone marrow samples, which quickly removes heavy red blood cell (erythrocyte) contamination. Unlike may similar products used in molecular biology that lysis red blood cells, this product is extremely gentle in its action and is specially suited for cell culture work. It is well documented that high concentrations of red blood cells inhibit growth of cells from amniotic fluid for instance by restricting colony size. This product will not prevent maternal contamination from occurring because it has no effect on white blood cells.
