Improving the success rates of difficult to grow Blood cultures

Most cytogenetic laboratories have lower than average success rates for their urgent baby bloods, samples from pregnant women, samples from post-partum women. Also samples obtained from ill patient on medication impact cell growth rates.
In addition to that many bloods arrive in the lab not in ideal condition

E.g., delays in getting the sample to the lab, leaky collection tubes etc.

Steps to take to improve growth success rates:
Lymphocyte Growth Supplement (LGS) is very simple to use, you simply including a 1% concentration of Lymphocyte Growth Supplement into your normal lymphocyte growth medium.

The results are cultures were boosted by the LGS.
The mitotic index and chromosome morphology are significantly improved.
Laboratories have also found that urgent 48 hour cultures were of better quality too.

Many laboratories have trialled the product and concluded:

“LGS improved the quality of our chromosomes
as well as reducing, in particular, the failure rate of samples from pregnant and paediatric bloods.”
